The E-Link between ROP and Insurance Companies Provides Electronic Vehicle Renewal Service

08 December 2013

In the frame of the government efforts to transfer to E-Government, CMA and ROP started activating the electronic vehicle renewal service through the E-Link between ROP and insurance companies. This operation is based on entering data of the insured and his vehicle by the insurance employee through the E-Link system of ROP, and thus stopping the use of paper renewal forms.

CMA has earlier directed insurance companies to take necessary arrangements to activate the joint database between insurance companies and ROP. The first step for executing this project was taken in 2008 where an agreement was signed between insurance companies and the executing entity of the project which is Al Madina Development Company under the patronage of CMA and ROP in order to establish a joint database including violations and claims resulting from traffic accidents, and to facilitate procedures of insurance and vehicle renewal.

This project comes within the direction to transfer all government services to electronic services in order to achieve a digital Omani community and reach highest levels of technical practice that would serve the development issues in the social and economic fields. The E-Link between insurance companies and ROP is considered a stimulating way to apply self-monitor with the driver regarding driving rules, so he would avoid road risks and high insurance premiums when renewing his vehicle. The system contributes in achieving higher level of road safety by applying the concept of society partnership with the private sector in order to limit road accidents and the resulting damages, death and severe material losses.

This E-linking will create a central and comprehensive database for the traffic history of vehicles and their owners while passing the various parts of the Sultanate. Statistics of the system will provide real and accurate indicators of details of road accidents which will facilitate the accidents’ study and analysis process, and will ease the protective and remedial arrangements taken towards their negative causes, and will prevent their re-occurrence.
