3.6 million was the insurance claims’ size for the rains of last September

Statistics issued by CMA showed that compensations size paid by insurance companies after heavy rains for two hours on Friday, 4th September, 2015 in the Governorate of Muscat reached more than 3.6 million Omani Riyals, as it caused big damage to vehicles’ and properties’ owners, besides the damages caused to roads, equipment and machines used in executing a number of government and private projects.

The report revealed that engineering insurance came first in the list comparing to other insurance products in the size of paid compensations to individuals and affected parties as it exceeded 2 million Omani Riyals for 59% of the total loss that reached 3.6 million Omani riyals. Vehicle insurance with its two types; comprehensive and third party came second in the size of paid compensations that reached about 1 million Omani Riyals for 22% of the total loss. While property insurance came third with 18% of the total loss caused by rains.

It is worth to mention that paid compensations to cover loss caused to contractors of constructive and engineering projects was only to cover loss to equipment and materials in the work site.

On light of the information, CMA confirms on the importance of coordinating efforts of concerned institutions to promote the basic structure of emergency management that result of rains. Combined efforts shall evaluate drainage channels, open drains for streaming and collected water in allies and residential areas as these are considered basic tools for risk management. CMA calls vehicles owners to take cautious and to not enter wadis of strong flows.
